I took a drive down the AB tonight for the first time in many months. I am starting to realize why it is so hard to fill a venue that is farther East than sage ave. People in West Mobile just do not have the need to really venture towards downtown. West Mobile has basically become its own functioning city. It really is a pain to drive 13+ miles to go downtown. I still have not driven through the LODA in over 2 years. That is a shame because I am a big supporter of redevelopment. Anyway.....
I just thought i would throw out a couple of observations from my anxiety ridden trek to Springdale mall.
1. Once again I must say that Mobile has to lead the nation in nail salons and beauty supply stores per capita. I swear to God. You can't find one shopping plaza without one of these staple businesses. I have come to realize that if I could build a strip center and put a package store, an Asian family painting fat white women's toes, am ethnic restaurant serving really crappy food and check cashing service, I would be rich. Mobile has 9 businesses just repeated every 10 miles.
2. Is the old Copelands restaurant haunted by the ghost of Admiral Semmes and Aurthur Outlaw? Why is it that this place is still abandoned. That joint shut down years ago even though it sits on golden real estate. This is Mobile....where is CVS or Dollar General?
3. Crystal Meth has obviously reached the desks of the city road planners. Turning left into the mall by Bebos car wash is like trying to navigate your way out of Talladega on race weekend. You take your life in your hands walking through that parking lot.
4. Am I the only person who hates the sound of Harley motorcycles? We get it! you own a Harley!
5. Alabama really needs to pass a vehicle inspection law.
6. Saw a book tonight titled "secret sex tips for women by a gay man"....Huh
7. When you can't get down the aisle of the religious section or the self help sections at a book store......you know things are not looking good.
8. Receiving my education from the good old private Christian schools, I was routinely subjected to pop quizzes on Bible verses. If nothing else, every teacher pounded home the message that the Bible was : "the true, literal, word for word truth" Nothing was to be added or taken away. Why is it that there are over 100 different Bibles for sale in Barnes and Noble. The King James, the NIV, the women's study Bible, the fathers study Bible..etc..etc...etc. Maybe the problem with religion these days is that everyone is working of a slightly different playbook.
Until next time......10 items or less...not 11..not 14...not 26...just 10
