Went to the DMV today to get a new drivers license. Having visited that Hell hole many times over the years, I came prepared. I had the latest issue of Sports Illustrated and was focusing all my energy on pulling a low number from that goofy red thing on the wall. To my surprise, I walked in and had a new license in under 4 minutes! I didn't take a number or anything. There were tons of people in there but apparently not that many for a new license. Why is it that the DMV always has what looks to be the worst of society waiting in line. Kids were screaming, rappers were everywhere, people with the blank stare of "How did my life end up like this". Maybe, just maybe, the snail of local government has evolved. Now we will see just how long it takes to get the real thing in the mail.
Everyone has heard the old adage that you can tell a persons worth by looking at their shoes. Well, I think there is a version of this when it comes to vehicles. I have developed my own way of deciding how wealthy someone is based on their tire tread. That's right, tire tread. When you see one of those big shiny Escalades or Navigators at a stop light with a well dressed woman in it, look at the tires. You see, many times you get sucked in by the attractive lady with the sharp clothes and the newly manicured nails tapping on the wood grain steering wheal. If you can afford a $50,000 vehicle then you surely can afford something that doesn't resemble a racing slick from Atmore drag way. If the tires are bald then it is a sure sign that the person is over extended and credit card heavy.
Out of the 20 people who have found me on face book in the last 2 days. 19 are old IMS high school people. Everyone who was once a Crusader is coming out of the woodwork. It is a blast seeing what everyone looks like now. Funny thing is, of all these old pals only 1 so far shares my single, childless lifestyle. One thing you can say about IMS people is they like having babies!
Can we start some kind of push to get these road bikes off the road. I like bicycles more than the average guy but I am not stupid enough to think that a guy in spandex and 1 inch tires has the same right to share the blacktop. I just don't get it! The speed limit is 45-50 mph and you are cruising at a whopping 15. Traffic backs up and people have to wait on an opening to go around you. They like to moan, "Where else are we supposed to ride?". It is not my problem that you invested money in a hobby that doesn't have a "field". If I had a car going 15 down cottage hill, I could get a ticket. More than the annoyance and the danger it causes on the roadway, it is the arrogance of these people that bugs me the most. Not only are they adamant that they get their share of the road, they like to ride on the busiest roads at peak traffic time. Several of these goofballs have been hit and killed but they still think that they are right. Get a mountain bike or go out to the country and ride.
My pick on the Superbowl.......the black and gold baby!
Until next time................enjoy a good hot dog!
