Long before "So you think you can dance" and "Dancing with the stars" and "Next Big Thing" and "Nashville Star" and "America has Talent" We didn't need a panel of three judgemental morons to tell us we were any good. We didn't care if we were good. When I was a kid, I hated the Soul Train. That damn cartoon train would come jooking across the T.V. and that meant one thing: cartoons were officially over and I was half a day closer to going back to school. I would watch the whole show almost every Saturday waiting for Shane and Spence Walker to finish their chores so we could get a game of "ditch army". For those who don't know, ditch army is just a couple kids in different ditches tossing dirt clods at each other and making lots of explosion noises.
When I saw this clip it reminded me of how many times I would sit in my room and dream of how I was going to be a rich and famous entertainer....NONE. My point is that we have passed the days when you played sports to get girls, not to get 5 stars from Rivals.com. Those were the days that if you just happen to walk behind John Edd Thompson from the local WKRG during a live shoot, that meant a night of phone calls to everyone you ever met....you hit the big time....the talk of the school. I think Soul Train is such a symbol of days gone by because no one who strutted their stuff down the line, had any intentions of using it as a catapult to instant stardom. Now we are subject to endless shows of shouts of "My life is over" "My kid is the greatest singer of all time". Can me just stop pretending that we are talented and stop turning hobbies into careers. Throw on another record Don...I think I CAN'T dance and I like it.

Did anyone notice Rosie Perez? She's at about 2:40.
I also hated Soul Train, but my dad always made me watch American Bandstand.
you are killing me when you start to wax poetic like this.
Love some Don Cornelious. I still watch the reruns on WGN. I didn't like it then but it cracks me up to watch it now.
You can't dance but you can lead a mean conga line
