From the Mobile Police Department website. I this the beginning of a downward turn or just part of what happens to a growing city?
Change in crime statistics 2007 to 2008
1. Homicides up 9.1%
2. Robbery up 32.8%
3. rape 0% change
4. larceny up 1.1%
5. Violent crime up 15%
Some things like aggravated assault, burglary, car theft and total crime have fallen, but an increase in violent crime makes it hard to not ponder what direction the city is moving. I know that certain events like Katrina, the bad economy and gas prices have not made life on the streets for police officers easy, but Alabama went undefeated this year. Put down the guns people! The more news I read everyday, the more I want to buy a house next to the BOG's parents. At least in the country the only chance of taking a bullet in the chest is hunting without an orange vest.

Yep, thats why its so depressing to watch the news these days. Between murders, accidents, fires, plane/car crashes, natural disasters, when animals attack and rehab it's really unreal. And it seems to get more shocking as time passes, but it almost seems that nothing shocks us anymore. And, thats depressing.
Please, cant we have some stories about people helping little old ladies buy stamps. Let's leave out the part where she didn't live up to her end of the bargain....see, there's always a catch.
