Give the old people a break on the DTV conversion.......and do something that would make your momma proud...

I know what you are thinking. These people have had 2 years to get ready and buy their converter box for the big digital TV switch. I am not going to argue with you that people can surely scrounge up about $30 for the box. I am not going to argue that people have just procrastinated. What I am going to say is.........what is the reason for all the negativity about delaying the switch. This thing does not affect you an any way. You probably have cable and wouldn't know the difference if it went digital in the middle of American Idol. My point is that most college educated people have a hard time figuring out which cable runs to with port. So I ask you to stop for a second and think about this lady:

She is someones grandma that lives alone and is the ripe age of 82. She has no family around and spends her quality time watching Bob Grip and Wheal of Fortune. She lived a 1/3 of her life without TV and still doesn't understand how it all happens. She is told to get a box to transform her (insert words that are Greek in her mind)or she will no longer get a picture. What does she do? She has no car and relies on the little BRAT bus to take her to the senior center 4 days a week. So, she somehow gets her hands on one of these things and she is expected to get back there behind the TV and plug all the wires.

Folks this is more people than you think. The problem is that many of the elderly rely on that TV for storm warnings and the forecast. Lets not rush this thing so that the people with nice TV's can watch their big screens a little clearer. This is a matter of respect for people who have worked a lot longer and a lot harder than our generation.

I challenge everyone to stop by that old lady who lives in your neighborhood and hook up that converter box for her. Hell don't even be afraid to opt out of the weekend restaurant visit and hand her one as she gets off the BRAT bus. You just might be saving more than Wheal of Fortune

Until next time.......Sometimes our bitching (me included) clouds our sense of responsibility
